#10: 5 Days of War (2011, dir. Renny Harlin)

When I began this whole ‘Movies Watched In…’ thing, I intended for it to be a list only. But, in the case of this film, I really must pause to state that it’s absolutely dreadful. I won’t attempt to dissect its apparent political slant, as the 2008 South Ossetia war which it depicts is a conflict that I have very little understanding of. But I will say this: I’m not a filmmaker, but I am relatively sure you can either have a scene in your movie where a guy nonchalantly walks away from an explosion in slow motion or you can have a coda where real life victims of the portrayed war talk about how they have suffered but not both.

I really wanted to like this. I thought the general atmosphere and aesthetic were well realised, but not a whole lot really happened.

Unfortunately.
